Artist Caroline Liu will lead a hands-on youth workshop that invites young artists to paint their own skateboard with a focus on mental health awareness. Inspire Nation, a local youth-centered mental health nonprofit, will provide their Rebel Responsibly journals and promote journaling and skateboarding as emotional outlets and Green Chili Skateboards will donate blank skateboards. The project will culminate in a community showing at ACE Barbershop in downtown Albuquerque. Students will keep their skateboards.
Caroline Liu is a multidisciplinary artist known for her exploration of decadent and dark surrealism, intricately weaving together realistic and illustrative motifs to create densely packed magical environments that blur the boundaries between light and dark, real and imagined. She holds a BFA in Painting and Drawing from the University of New Mexico and has exhibited nationally and internationally, including large-scale mural partnerships with Meta, Google, and Meow Wolf. She debuted her first West Coast solo exhibition, Stages of Grief, at Thinkspace Projects in Los Angeles (2023) and a two-person exhibition, Perhaps and Nevermore, at Pie Projects Contemporary Art in Santa Fe. Liu recently completed a residency at the Wassaic Project in New York and has been featured in New American Paintings, The Chicago Tribune, and Southwest Contemporary.
